Dutch Language and Culture

In the lessons Dutch language the student will acquire basic competences and knowledge of Dutch like: numbers, time, days of the week, months, clothes, colours, family members, items in and around the house, weather, food and drinks. The student can express him/herself so that he/she will be able to have basic conversations with Dutch people.

Skills / study target
In the lessons Dutch language the student will acquire basic competences and knowledge of Dutch like: numbers, time, days of the week, months, clothes, colours, family members, items in and around the house, weather, food and drinks. The student can express him/herself so that he/she will be able to have basic conversations with Dutch people. In the end the students will have reached an A1 level CEFR. In the lessons Dutch culture the student will be introduced in phenomenon “Culture” in general and specific in a few aspects of the Dutch culture.

Description / contents Dutch language
At the end of the semester the student has reached the A1 level of the CEFR standard of the European Council. The student can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. Can introduce him/herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has. Can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

Dutch culture
The student will get acquainted with concepts as perception, images and stereotypes about cultures and will be introduced to a few topics that contribute to the Dutch culture like the history of the Netherlands, the Dutch landscape, Dutch customs, food, music etc. Also the student will be introduced to the reflection of the Dutch culture in Friesland and Leeuwarden.
